Imre Kertész war ein ungarischer Schriftsteller, der am 9. November 1929 in Budapest, Ungarn, geboren wurde und am 31. März 2016 verstarb. Er ist insbesondere für seinen Roman "Roman eines Schicksallosen" ("Sorstalanság" im Original) bekannt, der 1975 veröffentlicht wurde. Dieses Buch ist eine autobiografische Erzählung und thematisiert Kertész' Erfahrungen im Holocaust und in Konzentrationslagern, wobei es den Fokus auf die psychologischen Aspekte der Überlebensstrategien legt.
Imre Kertész wurde 2002 mit dem Literaturnobelpreis ausgezeichnet. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten ungarischen Schriftsteller des 20. Jahrhunderts. Neben "Roman eines Schicksallosen" schrieb Kertész auch weitere Romane, Essays und literarische Werke, die sich oft mit Themen wie Totalitarismus, Identität und dem Überleben in extremen Situationen auseinandersetzen. Er hat mit seinen Werken zur Literatur des Holocaust und zu existenziellen Fragestellungen einen wichtigen Beitrag geleistet.
